WEDDING ART: Three Italian paintings to make your wedding a masterpiece.

Every bride deserves a wedding that’s so perfect, it’s basically a work of art, and what better place to talk about art than Italy: from the Venus by Botticelli to the Kiss by Hayez, Italian art has always been a pot of gold from which every bride can draw style cues. We were inspired by some of the most famous Italian paintings and we created a list of tips that will make your wedding a true masterpiece.

THE BIRTH OF VENUS (Sandro Botticelli)

Probably the most iconic of the Florentine artist’s paintings, Botticelli’s Venus has represented for centuries the ideal of feminine beauty: long strawberry blond hair, delicate and sinuous facial features, silky smooth skin and graceful body language. It goes without saying that we’re not suggesting to take inspiration from her clothes, only a Greek goddess will ever succeed in being elegant with only a thin veil covering her body. Why not take her hairstyle as an example?  As already mentioned in our social pages, the bohemian-chic style is coming back in vogue and there is nothing more “boho” than a low loose ponytail, with a drizzle of small white flowers and pearls to adorn it all?

IL BACIO (Francesco Hayez)

No one, to our opinion, has ever managed to represent love on canvas better than the famous nineteenth-century Milanese painter. Today, however we want to take inspiration not especially from the passion of the two lovers as from the beautiful clothes that the damsel wears: a wonderful high waist medieval style dress in a delicate sky-blue color, with a wide skirt and a short train.  Of course, the medieval style with the enormous flounces in the middle of the sleeves and the heavy fabrics of the time is not very suitable for 2019, but this does not mean that one cannot take inspiration from some elements such as choosing a different color from white (just to break the traditions or just to focus on lush dresses in the style of a real queen) and abstract from the minimalist and tight-fitting models, such as, for example, a siren dress.

THE MARRIAGE OF THE VIRGIN (Raffello)

Apparently this panel by Raphael, which represents the marriage in the temple of Jerusalem between the Virgin Mary and Joseph, might seem poorly suited to inspire a modern marriage: the nerdiest followers in fact remember that, at that time  nobody ever got married because of love and the virgins who lived in the Temple were given in marriage to the suitor whose branch had blossomed, as a divine sign. What inspired us, however, in wanting to bring it to the contemporary, is the sense of intimacy that the painting communicates: marriage is a precious, unique and unrepeatable moment, and it deserves to be shared with the dearest ones. Huge ceremonies with half a million guests are wonderful because they show abundance, but sometimes there is nothing more beautiful than an intimate, private ceremony with a few guests, a ceremony to be shared in the warmth of our loved ones all the beauty of the purest love.
